At a board members’ meeting held on Nov. 28, the Japanese Para-Sports Association approved a plan for personnel change in which Japan Paralympic Committee (JPC) President Yasushi Yamawaki, 71 years old, will resign within the year and Junichi Kawai, 44 years old, will become the next JPC president. Kawai, a gold medalist in Paralympic swimming, is currently the chairman of the Paralympians Association of Japan. Kawai will assume the new post on Jan. 1 next year. This is first time for a Paralympian to head the JPC, which is in charge of administrative works.
