Kyushu Electric Power acquires 12.5% stake in LNG-fired power project in U.S.

FUKUOKA — Kyushu Electric Power Co. is participating in an American thermal power generation project using liquefied natural gas (LNG). It jointly invested in the project with Mitsubishi Corp. and Electric Power Development Co. and acquired a 12.5% interest. The participation in the project has enabled Kyushu Electric Power to have an equity ownership of 118,000 kw. The utility company has not disclosed how much it paid to acquire the interest. It is the company’s fourth power generation project in the U.S. and allows the company to have an equity ownership of some 2.3 million kw in overseas power generation projects.

 

Kyushu Electric Power participated in the Westmoreland Gas-Fired Power Project in Pennsylvania (940,000 kw) through its subsidiary, Kyuden International (Fukuoka City). (Abridged)
