North Korea may have tested solid-fuel engine

NHK said at noon that following North Korea’s announcement on Sunday of a test “of great significance” on Saturday at its Sohae Satellite Launching Ground, South Korean media outlets are reporting that North Korea may have conducted a solid-fuel engine test for an inter-continental ballistic missile. The network explained that solid fuel can extend flight range and facilitate the launch of surprise attacks by reducing the time needed for preparation. The network further said some outlets are reporting that North Korea conducted a new type of liquid-fuel engine test under the guise of “artificial satellite development.” According to the network, the South Korean Defense Ministry’s press secretary said at a press conference this morning that South Korea and the United States are working closely to monitor and analyze the situation.
