On Dec. 29, the Naha Police arrested a 35-year-old U.S. Marine sergeant first class stationed in Okinawa on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol) for driving a car under the influence of alcohol (DUI) on a road in the Maejima district of Naha City. The suspect reportedly denied the charge, saying “I thought the alcohol was no longer in my system.” The suspect was arrested on charges of driving a passenger car under the influence of alcohol at about twice the legal limit (0.15 mg/liter of exhalation) on a road in Naha’s Maejima district at around 11:55 a.m. on Dec. 29.

According to the Naha Police, the fact that the suspect had been drinking was revealed when a police officer on patrol questioned him because he was acting suspiciously.
