Monday’s Nikkei reported on Foreign Minister Motegi’s visit to Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia from Jan. 5 through 11. The paper speculated that Motegi will discuss cooperation with these nations in promoting a “free and open Indo-Pacific” and urging the DPRK to denuclearize during his planned talks with senior officials, including Vietnamese Prime Minister Phuc and Philippine President Duterte.
