U.S. sailor arrested for injuring his girlfriend in Okinawa

On Jan. 4, the Okinawa City Police arrested a 27-year-old petty officer third class stationed at U.S. Naval Hospital on Camp Foster on the spot for injuring his 23-year-old girlfriend, a restaurant employee, by punching her in the face several times inside an apartment located in the Yamazato district of Okinawa City. The suspect has admitted the charge by saying, “I did punch her.”


The woman sustained injuries including a bruise on the right side of her face. The suspect was found to have consumed alcohol four times greater than the legal limit. The police are investigating the case, including the possibility of routine violence against the victim. (Abridged)
