Top Japanese diplomat holds talks with Chinese foreign minister

Nikkei wrote that Vice Foreign Minister Akiba held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang in Beijing on Wednesday and agreed to make President Xi’s scheduled trip to Japan in the spring a success. Wang reportedly said the President’s visit will mark a new milestone in bilateral relations. 

 

Meanwhile, Mainichi wrote that Chinese Communist Party Politburo member Yang Jiechi will visit Japan in the near future to accelerate bilateral coordination for President Xi’s state visit. The top Chinese official in charge of diplomacy is expected to hold discussions with senior GOJ officials on the agenda for the Abe-Xi summit. The paper wrote that one possible agenda item is the purported release of a “political document” that sets forth the tone of Sino-Japanese relations in years to come.
