On Jan. 19, the Ishikawa Police Station arrested on the spot a 21-year-old Marine corporal assigned to the U.S. military’s Camp Hansen on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law (for driving under the influence of alcohol). The suspect was allegedly driving a passenger car under the influence of alcohol on National Route 329 in Ishikawa Higashi Onna in Uruma City. The suspect reportedly denied the charge, saying “I haven’t consumed any alcohol at all since Friday night.” The suspect was arrested on charges of driving a passenger car under the influence of alcohol at about three times the legal limit (0.15 mg/liter of exhalation) on a national road in Uruma City’s Ishikawa Higashi Onna district at around 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 18.

According to the Ishikawa Police Station, the suspect’s car crashed into the median strip and turned over while the suspect was driving the car with one of his male colleague aboard. The police officers who rushed to the scene after being notified of the accident by a witness smelled alcohol on the suspect’s breath and asked the suspect to take a breathalyzer test.
