On Jan. 20, the Tomigusuku Police arrested a 57-year-old self-proclaimed English conversation instructor with no fixed address on charges of violating the Firearms and Sword Possession Control Law. The man, a dual U.S. and Colombian national, reportedly had seven bullets in a bag at the security check point at Naha Airport. The suspect reportedly denies the charge, saying, “I knew there were bullets in the bag, but I didn’t know it was illegal to possess bullets.”
The suspect was arrested on charges of possessing seven bullets for a firearm at Naha Airport on Jan. 20.
According to the Tomigusuku Police, the suspect was on his way from Naha Airport to the U.S. via Haneda Airport. He reportedly told investigators, “I borrowed the bag from a friend in the U.S., but I didn’t know there were bullets inside it until I came to Okinawa.”
