Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that the town of Kadena has begun interviewing residents near Kadena Air Base to obtain information about health damage they might have suffered due to noise and exhaust gas generated at the base. This is the second such survey conducted by the town after the last one 13 years ago. Municipality officials will visit a total of 300 households to conduct face-to-face interviews asking residents whether they have suffered hearing or sleeping difficulties due to noise, exhaust gas, or hot blasts generated by aircraft at the base. The town also plans to ask local residents whether they have suffered from foul odors emanating from the base or the Navy apron that was relocated there.
