On Jan. 23, a joint meeting of the Liberal Democratic Party’s National Defense Division and Research Commission on National Security approved a revision to the defense ministry establishment law to enable the creation of the Space Domain Mission Unit at the Japan Air Self-Defense Force in FY2020. After obtaining the approval of the party’s General Council, a cabinet decision will be made. The Abe government plans to introduce the proposal during the current Diet session.
