On Jan. 24, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Research Commission on the Tax System Akira Amari commented on the post-Abe LDP presidency, saying, “I think policy research council chairman Fumio Kishida is the leading candidate at the moment.” Amari explained that Kishida can expect broad support from party members and that he has a very pleasant personality.

On the possibility of constitutional reform during Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s third term as LDP president, Amari said, “It will be very difficult in view of the available time.” Amari was speaking to the press at the party headquarters.
