On Jan. 25, the Naha Police arrested on the spot a 26-year-old sergeant affiliated with the U.S. Marine’s Camp Foster on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law (driving under the influence of alcohol). The suspect reportedly denied the charge, saying “I thought there was no longer alcohol in my system.” Alcohol of about twice the legal limit was detected on the suspect’s breath.

The suspect was arrested on charges of driving a passenger car under the influence of alcohol on a city road in Naha’s Kumoji district at around 5:50 a.m. on Jan. 25. The fact that the suspect had been drinking came to light during police questioning.
