On Feb. 2, the Naha Police arrested on the spot a 22-year-old corporal affiliated with the U.S. Marines’ Camp Courtney on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law (driving under the influence of alcohol). The suspect reportedly denied the charge, saying “Although I had a drink, I was not drunk so I thought I was okay.”

The suspect was arrested on charges of driving a car under the influence of alcohol on a city road in Naha’s Asato district at around 4:28 a.m. on Feb. 2. Alcohol of about twice the legal limit was detected on the suspect’s breath.

According to the Naha Police Station, police on patrol stopped the Marine’s vehicle on suspicion of exceeding the passenger limit. The fact that the suspect had been drinking came to light during police questioning.
