Asahi wrote that the Chinese government has asked Japan to postpone a meeting of a bilateral committee on economic cooperation with third countries that was scheduled for Feb. 26 in Tokyo so that it can concentrate on dealing with the coronavirus outbreak. The session was reportedly meant to lay the groundwork for Xi’s state visit in the spring. The daily said that while the two governments ostensibly remain committed to realizing the Chinese leader’s Japan trip in early April, some GOJ officials now doubt Xi will be able to leave the country amid the virus outbreak.
