On Feb. 6, the Yokohama municipal government presented a plan to set up a experts’ committee tasked with giving advice on the selection of an integrated resort operator. It will submit an ordinance bill to the city assembly’s first regular meeting, which is currently in session.

The committee will be set up as a subsidiary body of the city and tasked with submitting to the mayor a report on the selection of an IR operator. The city will select an operator based on the report.

The committee will comprise seven or fewer members. All will be individuals well-versed in IR projects in areas involving tourism; meetings; incentives; conferences and exhibition, or MICE, facilities; regional economy; gambling addiction; urban development; and disaster prevention. The city will start preparations to set up the committee soon after the passage of the ordinance bill.

Meanwhile, the city also plans to formulate operation guidelines, which call for banning the committee’s members from contacting IR operator candidates, before launching the committee. (Abridged)
