Japan govt debts hit record 1,110 T. yen at end of 2019

Tokyo, Feb. 10 (Jiji Press)–The balance of Japanese government debts hit a record high of 1,110,780.7 billion yen at the end of 2019, the Finance Ministry said Monday.


The figure is equivalent to 8.96 million yen for each person in Japan, based on the country’s population of 123.88 million as of Aug. 1 last year.


The balance of debts, or the combined amount of government bonds, borrowings and financing bills, grew by 5,852.1 billion yen from three months before.


Of the total, government bonds rose by 4,610.7 billion yen to 987,249.5 billion yen, chiefly pushed up by long-term bonds with maturities of 10 years or longer.
