Taiwanese vice president-elect expresses hope to visit Japan

Monday’s Sankei front-paged a report on its one-on-one interview with William Lai, who was elected on Jan. 11 as the Taiwanese vice president. According to the paper, Lai expressed hope to visit Japan before his inauguration on May 20. The daily said Lai made his first visit to the U.S. as the vice president-elect in early February and highlighted Taiwan’s presence there, adding that if his visit to Japan is realized, it will lead to the development of Japan-Taiwan relations.
