Okinawa Times wrote that Okinawa Vice Governor Jahana summoned MOFA Okinawa Ambassador Kawamura and Director-General Tanaka of the Defense Ministry’s Okinawa Bureau to lodge a protest and demand that they provide information about the incident in which the fuel tank panel of a U.S. Navy FA-18 fell off midair after departing Kadena AB last week. The paper wrote that although the prefectural government is considering filing a protest directly with the U.S. military, it has not yet decided how or when to do so because the aircraft involved in the incident belongs to the U.S. base in Iwakuni.
