All national dailies wrote that the GOJ approved at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday a bill to tighten control of tech giants and ensure transparency in their transactions with business clients. The bill requires operators of massive online shopping sites and app stores to notify vendors of changes to the terms of their contracts in advance. Asahi wrote that concern has been growing among smaller companies that do business with these major tech firms that they are abusing their dominant position to take advantage of smaller businesses. The bill will also ask major tech companies to report once a year to the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry on their operations and information disclosure. Under the new rules, it will be possible to report companies suspected of violating the anti-monopoly law to the Fair Trade Commission. The GOJ submitted the bill to the Diet on Tuesday and is hoping that it will be enacted during the current Diet session and put into force by the end of FY2020.
