U.S. military conducts live-fire drills at night in Kyushu despite local protest

Asahi reported that Okinawa-based U.S. Marines have carried out live-fire exercises at night in a GSDF training area in Oita Prefecture since last week even though the prefectural government and the Kyushu Defense Bureau agreed in 2012 that such training would be prohibited after 8 p.m. to avoid disturbing local citizens. Nighttime drills have been conducted for a total of five days during an 11-day training period that runs through today. Governor Hirose reportedly filed a protest with the Defense Ministry.
