KAGRA starts observation of gravity waves

KAGRA, the gravitational wave detector in Hida City, Gifu Prefecture, started full-fledged operations on the evening of Feb. 25. Constructed by the University of Tokyo’s Institute for Cosmic Ray Research and others, KAGRA is the first gravity wave detector in Asia following those in the U.S. and Europe. It will be used to explicate astronomical phenomena, such as the nature of black holes. (Abridged)
