A wildfire broke out at Camp Hansen’s firing range 5 at 12:20 p.m. on Feb. 4. The firing range is on the Kincho side of Camp Hansen. The fire was caused by live-ammunition firing practice. The Okinawa Defense Bureau was informed by the U.S. Marines and then it relayed the news to the Okinawa prefectural government, which made it public. The fire was extinguished at 4:00 p.m. through ground-based fire-fighting efforts. This was the third wildfire incident this year at a U.S. military facility in Okinawa. It was the first wildfire at firing range 5.
