The Monday editions of all national dailies reported on remarks made on a Sunday talk show by Health Minister Kato, who predicted that it will be possible to administer PCR virus diagnostic tests to up to 7,000 people per day in late March, compared with 4,200 last week.

In a related story, Asahi wrote that the Health Ministry has asked the 47 prefectural governments to review their medical systems in preparation for a potential sharp increase in coronavirus cases based on the assessment that the current 5,000 hospital beds designated by the government for contagious disease patients are likely to all be occupied in the not-so-distant future. The prefectural governments will probably be required to offer beds at regular hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients.
