On March 12, the Okinawa Police arrested on the spot a 30-year-old U.S. Marine Corps contractor on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law (driving under the influence of alcohol). Alcohol of about four times the legal limit was detected on the suspect’s breath. The suspect partially denied the charge, saying “I did have a drink, but I did not think my alcohol level was that high.”
The suspect was arrested on charges of driving a passenger car under the influence of alcohol on Chuo Park Avenue in Okinawa City’s Chuo district at around 3:00 a.m. on March 12. Police on patrol stopped the contractor’s vehicle for driving the wrong way on the street. The fact that the suspect had been drinking came to light during police questioning.
