Canada, Australia call for one-year postponement of Tokyo Olympics

All networks reported that the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee announced on Sunday evening that they will not send teams to the Tokyo Games if they are held this year and called for a one-year postponement. The committees reportedly said “nothing is more important than the health and safety of our athletes and the world community.” In addition, NHK reported that following reports that the IOC has begun examining the possibility of postponing the Tokyo Games, the Australian Olympic Committee released a statement saying that “athletes should prepare for a Tokyo Olympic Games in the northern summer of 2021.” According to the network, the committee also pointed out in the statement that “it’s clear the Games can’t be held in July. Our athletes have been magnificent in their positive attitude to training and preparing, but the stress and uncertainty has been extremely challenging for them.”
