Tokyo, March 26 (Jiji Press)–A service member at the U.S. Navy’s Yokosuka base in Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, U.S. Forces Japan said Thursday.

This is believed to be the first confirmed coronavirus case among U.S. service members in the Asian country.

The service member in question, who arrived from the United States on March 15, is currently quarantined.

Effective from March 11, the U.S. military requires that all service members arriving in Japan take self-quarantine measures for 14 days.

The U.S. military also bans leaving home for nonessential purposes and holding meetings of over 10 people.
