NHK, NTV, and TV Asahi reported that according to the MHLW, more than 90 passengers and crew members of an ANA flight from Chicago were allowed to enter Japan upon arrival at Narita without being requested to self-quarantine for 14 days. The networks said the MHLW began asking all visitors from 41 nations, including China, South Korea, and the U.S., to self-quarantine at home or a hotel for 14 days upon arrival even if they have no symptoms and not to use public transportation starting on March 26 Japan time. According to the networks, although the flight left Chicago at 1 a.m. on March 26 Japan time, the quarantine officials at Narita miscalculated and thought that the flight left Chicago before 0 a.m. on March 26 Japan time, in which case the flight would have been excluded from the new measure.
