NHK reported online that Kadena AB announced this morning on Facebook that a family member of a U.S. military service member stationed at the base has tested positive for COVID-19. According to the post, the person is a family member of the airman who was the first service member at the base to test positive for the virus on March 28. The family member was reportedly visiting Okinawa and had no contact with local Japanese residents. This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases at Kadena AB to three. The network added that Kadena AB has drastically reduced its operations and introduced a telework system to curb the spread of the virus.
