Nikkei wrote that the GOJ is considering expanding the scope of the state of emergency to include prefectures other than the current seven, as Aichi and some other prefectures are seeking to be covered by the emergency measures. The paper quoted an unnamed senior GOJ official as saying on Thursday that the virus is spreading rapidly in Aichi, Kyoto, Ishikawa, and Fukui prefectures. The paper also wrote that the GOJ will make a decision on the matter after hearing the opinions of experts. Asahi wrote that the governor of Aichi asked the GOJ on Thursday to place his prefecture under the state of emergency and the Kyoto governor has decided to make the same request. Mainichi wrote that the Aichi governor announced on Thursday that the prefecture will declare a state of emergency of its own at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
