Tokyo, April 14 (Jiji Press)–A lawmaker of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party said Tuesday that a member of his family has been infected with the new coronavirus.

Toshimitsu Funahashi, a member of the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of parliament, lives with the family member at an apartment for Lower House members in Tokyo’s Akasaka district.

The family member is suspected to have contracted the virus at work, according to a statement released by Funahashi.

Funahashi said he will refrain from attending parliamentary sessions until an investigation into the case is completed. The apartment was disinfected on Monday, after the Lower House Secretariat learned that a case of infection was found there.

Also, the office of Yoshio Maki, a member of the Democratic Party for the People and a director of the Lower House steering committee, said that his driver, a Lower House worker, has tested positive for the virus.

Maki has not shown any sign of illness, but he said he will refrain from attending parliament and stay home until Friday to be on the safe side.
