Yomiuri front-paged a finding that ER and outpatient services are fully or partially suspended at 15 leading hospitals in Tokyo, including Keio University Hospital and Jikei University Hospital, because they are overwhelmed by COVID-19 patients in serious condition and afraid of the potential in-house spread of the virus by asymptomatic patients. Various surgeries have also been suspended or postponed so that doctors and nurses can concentrate on treating coronavirus patients. These and 71 other hospitals across the nation are designated by the central government as medical institutions to provide especially high-level clinical services.
