Yomiuri reported on the disclosure by Foreign Minister Motegi on Tuesday that the GOJ has decided to send the flu drug Avigan for COVID-19 treatment to the Philippines, Malaysia, the Netherlands, and 35 other nations free of charge. More than 70 countries have reportedly asked Japan to provide the medicine. The GOJ is reportedly interested in collecting from the recipients data verifying its effectiveness in order to draw global attention to Japan’s potential contribution to combating the new pathogen, with the cabinet minister saying: “We would like clinical trials of the drug to be expanded around the world.”
