TOKYO — Japan’s inflation-adjusted gross domestic product contracted 3.5% in March from the previous month, according to estimates released Monday by the Japan Center for Economic Research.

The coronavirus outbreak began showing its economic impact after a rise in GDP during February.

Japanese exports sank 3.5% as the spreading pandemic sapped trade. Capital investment fell 2.6%, while consumer spending dipped 1.7%.
