On May 13, it was learned that the two perpetrators of the robbery in Chatan fled the site by running west from National Route 58 toward the sea. The new information was discovered from footage of a security camera of the bank next to the currency exchange shop where the robbery took place.

On May 12, two foreign-looking men threatened with a knife employees at the currency exchange shop, took cash, and fled the scene.

West of the currency exchange shop is an area of many residences, restaurants, and bars. The Okinawa police are collecting and analyzing footage from security cameras in the area. The two involved in the incident appear to be men and to have been wearing black parkas and jerseys. They are both between 160 and 170 cm tall. They apparently threatened the shop attendants in English.

Initially, the police said that one of the two men went behind the shop counter and took cash. But later the police revised the description to say that both men went behind the counter, threatened the attendants, took cash, and fled.
