On May 14, two civic organizations that oppose Yokohama’s bidding for an integrated resort facility featuring casinos submitted to the municipal government petitions calling for the suspension of the IR project, following the announcement by Las Vegas Sands that it will give up its plan to operate an IR in Yokohama.

Of the two organizations, one is the prefectural branch of the Japan Pensioners’ Union (Naka Ward, Yokohama). The other is “casino wo kangaeru shimin forum,” a citizen forum to think about casinos, which is joined by three groups, such as Keiso Juku (headed by Tsuyoshi Saito). (Abridged)
