The Japanese government has postponed the deadline for budget requests by ministries and agencies to allow them to focus on responding to the coronavirus outbreak.

Budget requests for the next fiscal year, beginning in April, are usually due by the end of August.

The deadline will be set back a month, as agreed during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

The government plans to simplify guidelines for budget requests as much as possible.

It also plans to obtain Cabinet approval by the end of the year, as usual, for a draft budget.
