Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that concerning the incident in which foam extinguisher containing PFAS leaked at MCAS Futenma in December last year, MOFA North American Affairs Bureau Director-General Suzuki said at a Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee session on Wednesday that the incident can be regarded as “relatively minor” because the Foreign Ministry was informed by the U.S. that the foam was not confirmed to have permeated the soil or to have flowed out of the base. The paper wrote that although the U.S. military said in an internal report that the foam flowed outside the base, the ministry has not been provided with the report.
