Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Policy Research Council Chairman Fumio Kishida met with his counterpart in the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDPJ), Seiji Ohsaka, in the Diet building on May 26. They exchanged opinions in response to the government’s explanation that the second supplementary budget for fiscal 2020 includes (1) a rent-relief package for small- and medium-sized business proprietors, (2) the expansion of the subsidies for employment adjustment, and (3) support for university students. After the meeting, Ohsaka told reporters: “The measures seem to be fraught with problems, such as their small scale. We’d like to carefully examine the measures after the budget is approved at a cabinet meeting.”
