The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) will push back the launch of its Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) to the moon by a year until fiscal 2022 from its initial target of fiscal 2021. In the announcement made before May 23, the agency explained that the launch will be postponed due to a delay in the development of an X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRIMS) satellite, which it is co-developing with the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and plans to launch at the same time as SLIM.
