The government finalized an intellectual property promotion plan for this fiscal year at a meeting of the Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters (led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe) on May 27. The plan mapped out a course of action to consider intellectual property strategies given the increased digitalization that has been fueled by the new coronavirus outbreak.

The plan predicts that digitalization and online systematization will be promoted across the globe even after the new coronavirus outbreak ends, and it states that Japan should lead the global effort to create rules for utilizing medical and administrative data. (Abridged)
