On June 11, the Okinawa police arrested on the spot a U.S. Marine Corps staff sergeant, 29, who is stationed at Camp Courtney, for the violation of the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol). According to the police, the suspect denies the charge, saying, “I have not been drinking.”
The allegation is that at around 1:39 a.m. on June 11, the suspect drove a subcompact car under the influence of alcohol on Prefectural Route 85 in the Chuo district of Okinawa City. A Breathalyzer test indicated a level of alcohol about three times above the legal limit (0.15 mg per 1 liter of exhalation).
