On June 12, the Ministry of Defense announced it will rotate the two Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) personnel dispatched to serve at the command center of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) monitoring the ceasefire between the Israeli and Egyptian militaries in the Sinai Peninsula in southern Egypt.

Due to the entry restrictions imposed by Egypt in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rotation of the two GSDF personnel dispatched was postponed. The term was initially scheduled to be about one year starting from April 2019.

The two new GSDF members to be rotated in will leave Japan on June 14 aboard a civilian aircraft. They will arrive in Cairo and will handle liaison and coordination between the two countries for about one year starting from the beginning of July.
