NHK reported that although the number of COVID-19 patients being hospitalized in Tokyo dropped significantly in May and remained at the same level for a while, the number has been increasing again since the end of June. According to the Tokyo government, the number of hospitalized patients was 1,413 on May 12 and had dropped to 204 on June 20. However, the number has risen to 280 as of July 1. The network added, however, that the number of seriously ill hospitalized patients requiring ventilators or in the ICU is decreasing, saying that although there were more than 100 such patients at the end of April, there were only 10 as of July 1. The network also said that as of June, the Tokyo government had 3,300 beds available for COVID-19 patients.
