The Friday editions of Yomiuri, Asahi, and Sankei reported on an announcement by Health Minister Kato on Friday that PCR testing centers will be set up near Haneda, Narita, and Kansai international airports around September as the GOJ is expected to gradually ease travel restrictions. Noting that it takes one to two days to obtain results from the PCR tests currently being conducted at airports, the paper wrote that the establishment of new centers is aimed at increasing the testing capacity with improved equipment and increased personnel. The daily also said that since some countries may require travelers departing Japan to provide documentation of negative COVID-19 screening results upon arrival, the government is also planning to set up testing centers in downtown Tokyo and Osaka for people who wish to visit such nations.
