Friday’s Okinawa Times front-paged a report that Marine Forces Japan announced on Thursday that a family member of a Marine stationed at Camp McTureous tested positive for the new coronavirus on Wednesday after returning from the United States on June 19. The paper wrote that this is the first COVID-19 case involving someone connected to the Marines in Okinawa. According to the Marines, the patient and their family arrived at Kadena Air Base on a military plane and have been in isolation at the camp since their arrival. The Marines also said the family members have had only minimal contact with U.S. military personnel and have not had contact with anyone off base. Navy health professionals and Marine Corps authorities are reportedly conducting contact tracing.
