Asahi wrote that although two LDP committees on foreign affairs held a joint meeting on Monday to discuss a resolution condemning China’s enactment of the national security legislation for Hong Kong and urging the government to cancel Chinese leader Xi’s state visit to Japan, the committees put off approving the resolution at the meeting in response to opposition expressed last week by LDP Secretary General Nikai, who has strong connections with China. Yomiuri ran a similar report.
