On July 8, German Ambassador to Japan Ina Lepel held a press conference at the Japan National Press Club in Tokyo and commented on Japan’s measures against the new coronavirus. She gave high marks to Japan’s efforts, saying, “Japan has made a remarkable accomplishment in preventing infections from spreading while introducing relatively few restrictions on freedoms.” She expressed her view that Japan’s preparations against a second wave of coronavirus will serve as a good reference [for other nations].

The ambassador also said, “as technologically advanced nations, Japan and Germany should demonstrate a spirit of invention.” She expressed expectations for stronger bilateral cooperation in such fields as the digital management of parts supply chains.
