Japan to increase PCR testing capacity at ports of entry

Saturday’s Yomiuri front-paged an informal GOJ decision to quadruple by September PCR diagnostic testing capacity at Haneda, Narita, and New Kansai Airports from the current 2,300 to 10,000 per day by setting up PCR centers at each location. The plan is aimed at launching talks on resuming business travel to and from China, Taiwan, South Korea, and seven other East Asian countries in addition to Vietnam, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand, with which such discussions are already underway. The daily noted that some 90,000 foreign residents have been unable to return to Japan because of the ongoing de facto entry ban on foreigners.
