All networks gave top play to reports that 206 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed on Sunday in Tokyo, including 30 at a theater in Shinjuku. The networks said the number of cases in Tokyo topped 200 for four consecutive days. Chiba confirmed 31 new cases on Sunday, the highest since the lifting of the state of emergency, and Kanagawa reported 34 new cases on Saturday, also the highest. Osaka confirmed 32 new cases on Sunday. A total of 408 new cases were reported nationwide on Sunday. NHK quoted Toho University Professor Kazuhiro Tateda as saying: “There were more than 200 cases [in Tokyo] for four straight days. I cannot help but think that this is the second wave. This is a very serious situation.”
